2024 William & Mary Libraries Travel Grant Winners
Emily Holland loves being a librarian. Emily works as the Student Success Librarian at Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, MD. In addition to her teaching, research support, and student engagement duties, she acts as the advisor to the student-led Mount Book Club and serves on several student success committees. Emily received her MSLIS from Simmons and her BA in English (Literary and Cultural Studies) from Penn State. A lifelong learner, Emily has recently taken two semesters of blacksmithing in the Mount's art department. When she isn't on road trips to visit historic cities or go camping, Emily enjoys life on a farm with her partner and their many animals. Murilo Alves Zacareli (he/him/his) is a second-year master's student in Library and Information Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison with an expected graduation in the spring of 2024. Before his time at The Information School, Murilo received a Bachelor's in International Relations from the University of Ribeirão Preto, as well as a Master's and a Ph.D. in International Relations from the University of São Paulo, Brazil, where he is from. Murilo has done research on global environmental governance, broadly defined, and conducted fieldwork in the Brazilian Amazon and the Upper Midwest of the United States. He has also served as a teaching assistant for courses on race and ethnicity in the United States, social science perspectives on environmental issues, and global environmental health. Murilo plans to build a career in academic librarianship with a focus on instruction, information literacy, and research, as well as library services that support students' learning, faculty work, and the information needs of broader communities. Max Sparkman is a Research Instruction Librarian and liaison to the social sciences at SUNY Geneseo in Geneseo, NY. He earned his MLIS from Old Dominion University in 2022. He is a huge proponent of active and experiential learning and critical pedagogy, and is very excited to both attend and present at TILC this year! Outside of the library, Max can be found reading as many banned books as possible with his spouse and two cats. |
